Bywell St. Peter - tower
Bywell St. Peter - tower
See NZ0461 : Bywell St. Peter. The 14th C tower was probably originally a place of defence. The tops of the walls are crenellated and there is a blocked-up doorway at the first floor level (its arch can be seen below and just to the right of the first floor window); access would have been via a ladder that was drawn up after entering the tower. {Source: Leaflet "Welcome to Bywell".}
