Ruin in Holmisdale
Ruin in Holmisdale
This is one of many similar ruins in the area.
At one time the Glendale district was home to more than 3,000 people.
When the landlords decided they would prefer to have the land for grazing sheep, the crofters were removed from their homes - often by force - and the cottages left to fall derelict.
Today, Glendale is a popular holiday retreat, and has about 300 permanent residents.
Beyond the ruin is the glen and cottages in Fasach township.
