SN8160 : Byway descending to the Afon Tywi, Powys
near to Moel Prysgau [forest or Wood], Ceredigion, Great Britain

Byway descending to the Afon Tywi, Powys
This former cattle drovers' road to Strata Florida and Pontrhydfendigaid comes out of the forest towards the two fords across the Afon Tywi. These can be impassable following prolonged heavy rain. There was a tragedy in late 2008. The Lôn Las Cymru cycle route has two big diversions through the forest which avoid several fords, but the distance is much greater.
Note: The Tywi appears small and benign today, but there has been no rain for about two weeks. It can soon becoming a rushing torrent.
