NH3962 : General Caulfeild's bridge over the Black Water, Little Garve
near to Gorstan, Highland, Great Britain

General Caulfeild's bridge over the Black Water, Little Garve
This graceful arch is one of many bridges built in the 18th century to improve military communications for Government troops in the Highlands. William Caulfeild was the successor to the well-known General Wade who was in charge of the road programme earlier in the century. An information board across the river gives further background. The bridge is usable by pedestrians and cyclists, but blocked to vehicles.
