Fore Wood Nature Reserve :: TQ7513

Fore Wood is a RSPB Reserve, with fascinating 'ghylls' – steep-sided little ravines in the sandstone – where rare ferns grow. In spring the reserve is a mass of bluebells and wood anemones, with early purple orchids adding to the show. Many woodland birds are found here, and in summer butterflies such as silver-washed fritillaries and white admirals flutter around the paths and areas of coppice. There are good trails around the wood, but beware that paths can become very muddy in winter.
