Improving the townscape
Improving the townscape
One of Wigan's new artworks set up on the major routes into the town. This one is on the junction of Warrington Lane (A573) and Darlington Street (A577), and represents the "Wiggin Tree". Suggestions that the work should relate to George Orwell, who lodged nearby when researching The Road to Wigan Pier, were dismissed because of the perceived unflattering view of Wigan and its folk in the book.
