Standing stone near Toptowie Hill
Standing stone near Toptowie Hill
This stone stands in a field, and is not far from a dry-stone wall. It may not be of any great antiquity; see LinkExternal link (at Canmore).

Positioned centrally in the background is the prominent Myot Hill (NS7882), which, like the more distant Dumyat (in NS8397, and not visible in this photo), appears to preserve the name of an ancient tribal grouping, the Maeatae. Just visible in front of the hill is the chimney (now demolished) of an old paper mill; see LinkExternal link and LinkExternal link for details.

Little more than 300m away is the similar NS8183 : Standing stone on Toptowie Hill.

For a very similar-looking stone located elsewhere, see NS7277 : Standing Stone, Kelvin Valley.
