NS8183 : Standing stone on Toptowie Hill

taken 8 years ago, near to Dunipace, Falkirk, Great Britain

Standing stone on Toptowie Hill
Standing stone on Toptowie Hill
This stone is not particularly large, but its position on the hilltop makes it fairly conspicuous from a distance. Like a similar stone located nearby (NS8183 : Standing stone near Toptowie Hill), it may not be of any great antiquity; see the description in Canmore: LinkExternal link

[My thanks to Geoff Bailey (of Falkirk Museum), who tells me that this stone is thought to be a seventeenth-century boundary stone.]

The two stones are not far apart (about 310m), and each can easily be seen from the other.

Doghillock Farm is visible in the background of the photo. For a view of the hill on which this stone stands, see NS8183 : Toptowie Hill.
