Fairy Hole
Fairy Hole
One of the few natural cave entrances on Warton Crag. Without prior knowledge it is now almost impossible to locate being away from open tracks. It has been excavated (mainly by the Red Rose Cave & Pothole Club) over many years since 1954 in the hope of entering a major cave system. Has been archaeologically investigated and produced "bones split for marrow extraction and of Celtic ox, sheep, pig and fox. ...... also a few flint flakes." (Underground in Furness, Eric Holland 1967).
