Carlton Nr Goole Railway Crossing, Hanger Lane
Carlton Nr Goole Railway Crossing, Hanger Lane
The Railway is the old Hull and Barnsley line. It was built to take coal from the south Yorkshire coal fields to Hull Docks, it was the shortest and fastest route. The engine drivers were better paid than the other railway companies. It is now the line feeding Drax Power Station with coal for the boilers and limestone for the desulphurisation plant and taking gypsum residue to British Gypsum to make plaster boards. The barrier at Hanger lane is manually operated by hydraulic pump by the public, there is an instruction board on how to operate it. There is also a board with the name Jacky Diffy painted on it, this may be the name of the crossing. The other side is an unmade road by the name of Bull Alley Lane.
