taken 12 years ago, 3 km from Bloxworth, Dorset, Great Britain

Memorial Stones, Wareham Forest
Memorial Stones, Wareham Forest
The stone on the left bears the letters ‘V E’ and the one on the right carries the date ‘1817’. The shape of the latter suggests that it could be a headstone. At this date in the 19th century the area would still have been part of a vast heathland that would be immortalized as ‘Egdon Heath’ in the novels of Thomas Hardy.
