High vehicle turnback (1)
This is the western turnback point.
Melton Road railway bridge :: SK6034
This restricted height bridge used to be repeatedly struck by high vehicles on the A606 coming off the A46 and heading towards Nottingham. Now there are special turn-back points; height detectors light up warning signs set far enough away to allow drivers time to use the escape route. The turnbacks are specifically restricted to vehicles higher than the clearance height of the bridge, although there is a special provision at the western one, as explained in one of the pictures.
