Ben Hutig
Ben Hutig
The south ridge. The soild and vegetation show the effect of the strong prevailing wind. The west side of the ridge has no peat and is covered in low heath , almost tundra vegetation. As shelter improves on the left of the picture, peat deposits build up. Ben Hutig is a quartzite hill, a rock that produces soils of very poor fertility.
