TQ8257 : Fallen tree on the North Downs Way

Fallen tree on the North Downs Way
Fallen tree on the North Downs Way
This tree obviously toppled over some years ago but has continued to grow. There are many flints, some quite large, entangled amongst the old roots now about two foot above the ground with newer growth all around them. The soil on the chalk is very thin here and many trees have fallen over against the bank but continue to thrive.
