SN7089 : Pen Cwm Ceulan

taken 14 years ago, 4 km NE of Bont-Goch or Elerch, Ceredigion/Sir Ceredigion, Wales

Pen Cwm Ceulan
Pen Cwm Ceulan
The head of the Valley of the Afon Ceulan, from the minor road from Tal-y-bont to Ponterwyd, which runs up along its southern side until it hits the rocky barrier of Bryn Mawr. Both the valley and the road take a sharp turn to the north as can be seen in the snowy distance. Presumably relatively warm coastal air is trapped at the bottom of the valley, which may explain why the shaded valley is clear of snow while the hills have considerable snow cover despite the direct sun, to the extent that the road is closed due to snow drift Link .
