Steam Engine, Neath Museum
Steam Engine, Neath Museum
Built by Ray Mead of London and used in a works at Briton Ferry. Now at the Neath Museum. I was fortunate in finding somebody at its previous location who knew where it had gone. note the composite flywheel with wrought iron spokes cast into the cast iron hub and rim - an early feature. The Pickering governor is almost certainly a retrofit.
This is typical of a small local history museum with a steam engine tucked in a corner. I know of several but think there may be many more.
If your local museum has a stationary steam engine please e-mail me.
