Excavating Silchester
Excavating Silchester
Silchester, or Calleva Atrebatum as it was known by the Romans, is a significant Roman town. Reading University archaeological department is excavating a small section of it, a residential area known as insula IX, and holds an annual summer camp. There are viewing platforms (I am standing on one) and some students act as guides (like person bottom right) to explain to the public what is happening.
