Higher up the Brennand River Valley
Higher up the Brennand River Valley
Looking up the Brennand Valley in a North Westerly direction. The white strip of track on the right of the photo leads steeply up Brown Bank, eventually ending for your average 4x4 motor transport (quad tanks of course can go almost any bloody where) at a shooters' cabin just over half a mile round the right hand bend from the top tip of the white strip track. One can see the Brennand River snaking down the valley. The horizontal line crossing the track on the lower slope of Brown Bank is the 'Water Board' (never have been keen on its privatisation) sluice. On the horizon in the middle of the picture Tarn Clough can be seen descending into the valley. At the clough cleavage top legend as it there be a lustrous treasure of gold and silver plate in the depths of the brackish waters of Brennand Tarn! (Tarn just out of sight on this photo.) It is said the monks of Whalley Abbey hid their treasure there from the greedy clutches of King Henry VIII! Don't even think about it folks because I, using my expert pearl diving skill, retrieved the treasure hoard some years ago and I made sure I got the lot. Trouble is I still ain't found an 'honest' fence who will give me a good price. So I put them to good use by eating my cornflakes off them, (one day silver one day gold, oh the decadence of it all) but it don't half make ones sunshine breakfast shine! Ere anybody out there wanna buy some very shiny Tupperware? Nudge nudge wink wink say na more!
