SU6462 : St. Mary's church

taken 15 years ago, near to Silchester, Hampshire, England

St. Mary's church
St. Mary's church
The church is within the site of the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum. It is mind blowing to consider that this church, the earliest parts of which were built in about 1150 and remodelled in about 1230, is therefore 800 years old, and was built 800 years AFTER the Romans left. The stumpy square bell turret is 18th century.
The adjacent fields are part of a thriving alpaca farm.
