Mortimer station
Mortimer station
This is the down platform. A Reading to Basingstoke train is just leaving, operated by a First Great Western 2-car diesel multiple unit of class 165. Mortimer is virtually halfway between Reading and Basingstoke, so the two trains on the local service usually pass hereabouts. The down platform has this substantially built but fairly ineffective waiting area. It mirrors the larger ticket office on the up platform. They were built in 1848 and together are a grade II listed structure.
