Hailes Castle from Overhailes
Hailes Castle is a 13th century fortified house, on the bank of the River Tyne. It was enlarged by the Hepburn family in the 15th century, with a tower being added.In the 16th century the castle was owned by James Hepburn, the third husband of Mary, Queen of Scots who he brought to Hailes on their flight from Borthwick Castle in 1567.
