taken 41 years ago, near to Snarestone, Leicestershire, Great Britain

End of truncated Ashby Canal, 1976
End of truncated Ashby Canal, 1976
The canal had been progressively shortened as coal trade ended and mining subsidence caused potentially costly problems. The end here was of no great age in 1976. It has a launching ramp for small craft. Some of the canal beyond has now been restored. See LinkExternal link LinkExternal link for the 2009 improvements.
