A fortnight later than much of the country, and a day after the rest of it, Bournemouth finally had its own proper snow today. You have to understand the term 'proper' in local terms – this is not the several inches which brought much of southern England grinding to a standstill yesterday, forcing hundreds to spend their nights in their cars on impassable roads; we are talking about enough that there will still be a visible reminder a couple of hours after it stopped – that's how much Bournemouth needs to call its snow 'proper'.
