Burnaby Memorial - St Philip's Cathedral
Colonel Frederick Gustavus Burnaby was a larger than life character standing 6 feet 4 inches in his stockinged feet. A noted explorer and balloonist he was the first man to cross the English Channel by balloon. He was killed in the Sudan. His connection to Birmingham is relatively tenuous having once stood for election in one of the constituencies.
