Horses grazing in the bog, Cors Caron Nature Reserve
I was surprised to see large animals in the bog - they seemed to be content traipsing around in the freezing peat. Looking towards Allt Ddu in the background.
While grazing in the core areas of the raised bogs in Cors Caron would be detrimental (and does not occur), the fringes of the raised bogs ('rands') benefit from grazing as this keeps the colonisation by shrubs at bay. Many of the farms surrounding Cors Caron have grazing agreements for cattle, ponies and sheep with the Countryside Council for Wales, the owners of the reserve, or graze wetland adjoining it LinkExternal link .
