NT2144 : Cleared fields, Stewarton

taken 12 years ago, 4 km from Eddleston, Scottish Borders, Great Britain

Cleared fields, Stewarton.
Cleared fields, Stewarton.
Cairns of largish boulders suggesting that these fields were won for arable use relatively recently. I have seen similar clearances on Hergest Ridge in Herefordshire, dating to the 1940s. I wonder if these fields around the Meldon Hills were also part of the dig for victory campaign. When ever they were made, the cairns are irresistible to lambs.
