Aqueduct across the River Dove, Stretton, Derbyshire
Aqueduct across the River Dove, Stretton, Derbyshire
The stone and brick aqueduct, constructed in the late 1760s has twelve arches. It carries the Trent and Mersey Canal across the River Dove north-east of Burton-on-Trent. As can be seen. it was built wide enough to accommodate broad beam boats, which can still be used up to ten feet in width between Derwent Mouth and Horniglow Basi,, Burton-on-Trent. West of that, starting with Dallow Lock, the normal seven foot narrowboat beam restriction applies.
