Ballachulish slate quarry
Ballachulish slate quarry
Quarrying commenced here in 1693 and continued right up until 1955, when operations finally ceased. Although at first glance slate appears to be a single uniform colour, the slate produced from the Ballachulish quarry was of a deep, blue-black hue.
