Nun's Road, Chester
Nun's Road, Chester
This is the Nun's Road section of the Chester Walls. Nun's Road occupies part of the lands of the Benedictine Nunnery of St. Mary's (hence the name) It stood on the site from Saxon times until the reign of Henry VIII- when, in 1537, along with the neighbouring houses of the Black, White and Greyfriars, it was dissolved and the nuns cast out to fend for themselves. On the left of the wall can be seen the Roodee, Chester Racecourse.
