Path to Mill falls
Path to Mill falls
The two pedestrians to the left are on the riverside path that gets to Mill falls from the Gilmonby road bridge. From Bowes itself, the easiest approach is from the back of the church down a narrow walled path NY9913 : Bull Banks path from Back Lane which opens out onto Bull Banks at the top of this gently sloping track down to the river. Whilst the local boys prefer a direct descent NY9913 : Sledging Bull Banks, nordic skiers find the footpath gives a nice long schuss down, and a pleasant plod back up - provided you have the right wax. Alternatively, if you have borrowed your mum's brand new telemark skis which have only been glide-waxed, herringbone is the only way back up.
