Maid of the Loch
Maid of the Loch
The last paddle steamer built in Britain, the Maid was launched in 1953. The ship was built specifically for use on Loch Lomond by A&J Inglis of Pointhouse, Glasgow. She was erected at their shipyard on the Clyde, dismantled, transported to Loch Lomond and re-assembled on the slipway at Balloch. Tied up and for many years, the maid of the Loch is being renovated, with the intention of being put back into service. Meanwhile she is a static tourist attraction at Balloch.
