Sheepfold on Caucabush Rigg
Sheepfold on Caucabush Rigg
Skiing down fairly featureless moorland towards Deepdale Beck in flat light, 15m visibility and "interesting" breakable crust, one is grateful for anything to give some depth and perspective, so the sight of this sheepfold looming out of the mist was very welcome, even though it indicated that I was somewhat off my intended line of descent. It's a neatly built circular wall, just shy of 10m diameter, with a single entrance facing SSE, down the fell. In the snow nearby are a number of strange craters, linked by ski tracks, and hinting at the difficulty of turning under the prevailing conditions on my 53rd birthday celebratory ski tour.
