The shell of the old cathedral in the snow. The area was taped off just in front of the photographer's position - I'm unsure whether this was due to the risk of slipping or to keep people away from the scaffolding shrouding the east window.

The cathedral church of St Michael dates from the 13th century. Originally a large parish church, it was raised to cathedral status in 1918. Much of the church was destroyed during WW2, leaving the spire (built between 1371 and the 1430s) and the outer walls. A grade I listed building
