Starting the ferry glide across Loch Carron
Starting the ferry glide across Loch Carron
The rising tide was just starting to make itself felt as we headed south between the Strome Islands to reach the south shore of Loch Carron on our way back to Plockton in the teeming rain. This meant a ferry glide rather than a direct crossing, but we decided to island hop to use the eddies and get a little shelter. Ahead is Eilean an t-Sratha, the largest of the islands, and the only one with any significant growth of trees. The low cloud, fortunately, never came down enough to impair visibility - on a crossing like this, with a compass on the bow of the boat, there is never any real doubt about arriving on the other side, but one always worries about traffic.
