Junction Bridge House & swing bridge, Gloucester & Sharpness Ship Canal
This is known as Saul Junction as the ship canal used to cross over the Stroudwater Navigation, at a point to the right of the house. Now only a small section of the Stroudwater remains open, as moorings and as access to a large new marina. Restoration of the canal is planned in stages, but the section between here & the River Severn will not be restored.

In this view, one of the swing bridges can be seen. It is open to allow a boat through. There is another swing bridge over the Stroudwater. The Junction Bridge House was built to house the canal company’s toll collector for boats entering the Stroudwater. Later it accommodated British Waterways' bridge-keeper. Part is still used by them to remotely control various bridges.
