Welford: Former Welford Park railway station
Welford: Former Welford Park railway station
The raised embankment to the right is the site of the former Welford Park railway station on the Lambourn Valley Railway, while the embankment to the left is at track level. The station opened in 1898 but closed in 1960, fifty years previously to the day, bar one, that this photo was taken. The railway actually lasted until 1973 with occasional military freight trains to RAF Welford reversing at this location. The station, which was named after the local estate, originally had two platforms and a passing loop.
