The Great Garden - 1
The Great Garden - 1
Looking north-east across the rectangular Eagle Pond to the garden boundary wall. This is a Dutch-influenced formal style garden, favoured during the reign of William and Mary (1689-1702). It was probably created during that period and would have looked very much as it is today. The 300-foot by 100-foot pond is surrounded by walnut trees and may have been a monastic fishpond. Parts of the North Terrace wall at the back are thought to date from the 14th century.
