Sphinx of Bowland
Sphinx of Bowland
The millstone grit boulder which can look like a sphinx if you want it to! This rock is part of Whitendale Hanging Stones. The prominent fell in the distance behind the shinx head is Whin Fell curbing down to the left edge of the picture. To the left of the sphinx brow on the far fell, the deep clough is named Swine Clough. At the top of this clough is the summit of Whin Fell on the sky line.
