Rock pinnacle
Rock pinnacle
The road constructed by Thomas Telford followed the margin of the headland and did not involve tunnelling. Here, his road created an isolated pinnacle when a buttress of the cliff was cut through. It is astonishing that it stands today as it is heavily undercut at the high-tide level and seriously fractured. This section of Telford's road was bypassed by the short, northern tunnel in the 1930's and is now the footpath and cycle track SH7478 : Cycle track round Penmaenbach Point.
