NZ0314 : Field of slush

taken 8 years ago, near to Boldron, County Durham, Great Britain

Field of slush
Field of slush
This field slopes only gently to the north, and the lying snow is turning to slush. The lower-lying patches where the snow is most saturated cannot drain past the remaining show downslope, so the brown slush is getting deeper and the ground beneath is a quagmire of welly-sucking depth in places. The footpath strictly goes on the west side of the village sewage works (which is behind the chain link fence), but parts of that way are no more than a muddy stream, so most walkers choose the east side, alongside the fence, in this sort of weather.
