Rock Outcrop in Sea
Rock Outcrop in Sea
This was known as the Black Path and probably covered a sewage outlet. It was a favourite spot for fishing and I've spent many a fruitless day here with my friends. I didn't really enjoy fishing especially for sprats which hardly made a meal. I also fell into the water to the left of the path and luckily close to the shore. I arrived home soaking wet and was banned from the cliffs for several weeks.
Not as lucky as some of the people I knew who lost their lives falling off the cliffs or drowning in the sea. Despite these tragedies there were no thoughts of suing the council or anyone else.
As a child the cliffs and beaches were my playground and were wonderful but there were dangers and you had be aware of them; if you were then it was a safe and enriching environment in which to play.
