Fungus, Halligarth
This appears to be Flammulina velutipes, a very common fungus which grows on dead wood and which is unusual as it appears in winter. It is also known as Winter Mushroom, Velvet Stem, Velvet Foot, Enoki or Enokitake - the last two names are applied to cultivars, which are usually white as they are grown in the dark. The range of names is because it is edible and it has a relatively unusually fruiting time, in midwinter, so this makes it something of a novelty. (Thanks to Mike Richardson for help with identification).
