TQ4035 : Iron ore pit, Furnace Wood

taken 8 years ago, near to Ashurst Wood, West Sussex, Great Britain

Iron ore pit, Furnace Wood
Iron ore pit, Furnace Wood
One of a chain of pits along the Wadhurst Clay exposure on the north side of the Medway valley. Furnace Wood has many small pits. Early Purple orchids seem to favour the humps and hollows in the clay. One or two were showing shoots already, in mid-January.
