Middle Wharfe take-out
Middle Wharfe take-out
The Middle Wharfe, in paddling parlance, is the section of the river ending at Linton, typically starting at Conistone or Kettlewell. There are two weirs at Linton, the first one can be run fairly easily at the level seen here (although it is a little intimidating), and the second pretty much avoided by keeping river left. This is a good idea anyway, as below the footbridge lies the grade 5 Linton Falls, which, at a level good for the rest of the river, looks particularly terminal. Small eddies river left allow a prudent escape to the footpath on the left bank, and a departure over the footbridge to the (expensive pay-and-display) car park.
