The effect of good muirburn practice
The effect of good muirburn practice
The art of making heather young again! On heather moors the plants grow large and woody and unsuitable for sheep or grouse to feed on. By burning patches of heather on a 12 - 18 year cycle the keeper of the moor can build up a patchwork of different ages of heather to provide a varied habitat. This section was probably burnt 2-3 years ago as it is just beginning to sprout again.
