Fourteen Acre Marsh
Fourteen Acre Marsh
The name of the field according to the 1839 tithe map. Much of the land here was reclaimed during the medieval period with persistent battles against flooding ever since but seemingly worthwhile due to the fertility of the soil that was used for pasture. The melting snow and overnight rain has flooded this field and increased the amount of water in the drain to the right. As well as being used for drainage the latter also serves a purpose as both a fence and a source of water for animals pastured here during the summer months.
