Snow Buntings (Plectrophenax nivalis)
Snow Buntings (Plectrophenax nivalis)
Part of a flock of 25 Snow Buntings in fields at Dowlaw. This area has regular records of Snow Buntings. The species breeds in the Cairngorms, but can also be found occasionally on other high tops in Scotland. In winter, they can be found at much lower altitudes, typically in coastal areas such as here in the Borders.
