Shire Hall, St. Peter's Square
The Herefordshire Council usually hold their meetings in this building. It also contains courts and associated offices, is a concert venue and can host other functions. It was built around 1817 on the site of the former main county gaol. It is reputed to be haunted and its construction caused the demolition of two old Hereford pubs, The Flower Pot Tavern, and The Catherine Wheel. Fortunately the city still has plenty of other pubs left. The statue in front is that of Sir George Cornewall Lewis:- SO5139 : Statue of Sir George Cornewall Lewis.
