The Bonny Water or Auchincloch Burn
The Bonny Water or Auchincloch Burn
Not so bonnie looking at all and hard to distinguish it as a burn at Wyndford. It has burst its banks due to the thaw and filled up what is normally its bog at this spot.

'Reports of John Smeaton' (Canal Engineer) p.32, 1764, pub. London, 1812

"The burn of Auchincloch, which discharges itself into the (Dullatur) bog and which, though now runs into the water of Bonnie, might, with very little trouble, be turned, so as to run the other way into the Kelvin; for a drain that passes lengthways through the bog, has, for half a mile in the middle thereof, no sensible run at all; so that the same trench is the head of both of the Bonnie and the Kelvin".

One hundred years before the Ordnance Survey tagged this as the Bonny Water John Smeaton called this the Auchincloch Burn. Smeaton was correct as the Bonny Water only comes into being at the confluence of the Auchincloch with the Red Burn at Woodneuk near Castlecary.
