SJ8857 : Old balance Wheel

Old balance Wheel
Old balance Wheel
This balance wheel was removed from the bottom of the Victoria shaft, of the Biddulph Victoria Colliery, on its closure in 1983. It was then placed in front of Biddulph Town Hall to commemorate the importance that coal-mining once was to the town. Unfortunately I could not get square on to it because someone has planted a large Spruce tree in front of it. For a detailed view of the sign see SJ8857 : Information sign on the Balance Wheel
